'Dominican Republic Independence Day, Caribbean Parades & Carnivals'
February 27 is the Dominican Republic Independence Day. Celebrated with Caribbean parades and carnivals in Punta Cana and the Dominican Republic.
Going back in time, the year 1838 Juan Pablo Duarte founded a society called La Trinitaria, wanting a complete independence of Santo Domingo. Juan Pablo Duarte was later helped by Ramon Matias Mella and Francisco del Rosario Sanchez who became the three founding fathers of this wonderful country called the Dominican Republic.
Some years later on February 27, 1844 the Trinitarians declared independence from Haiti and its rule. They were helped by a rich cattle rancher from El Seibo. His name was Pedro Santana who later became the General of the army. The Dominican Republic's first Constitution was adopted on November 6, 1844. It was modeled after the United States Constitution.
