It first started its headquarters in New Jersey. Originally it had a fleet of not more than 10 cars. Budget became bigger and bigger by lowering the per mile rental rates below the established airport based car rental firms.
Its headquarters was moved to Chicago Illinois (1960). Budget expanded its rental fleet with franchised rental outlets. Eventually Budget was bought by the Transamerica Corporation. The year 2002 assets were sold to the 'Cendant Corporation'.
The 'Cendant Corporation' was separated into independent companies (2006). A real estate division, a hospitality services division and a travel distribution service division with the Travelport sale.
